The Athletes in Action Sports Conference and Retreat Center (SCRC) is a hub for local and international sports ministry on a stunning 250-acre property in Xenia, OH. This combination of outdoor sports fields, dormitories, challenge course, and banquet center (in addition to the soon-to-be constructed indoor field house) will attract more than 300,000 annual guests to the Athletes in Action Campus. While participating in such hosted events as tournaments, team retreats, camps, and conferences, sports-minded individuals will learn what it means to compete as a Total Athlete (embracing the intersection of physical, mental, and spiritual components to play with greater motivation and live with a greater purpose in mind).

The primary role of the Sports and Programming Director is to direct the facility’s sport and non-sports programs in alignment with the mission of AIA to see Christ-followers on every team, in every sport, in every nation. These programs will include but are not limited to leagues, tournaments, and after-school programs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.

Consistently attend and participate in team/ministry devotional times.

For this position:
Plan, develop, execute, and review the facility’s sport and non-sport programs, camps, leagues and tournaments, optimizing missional and revenue results

Develop programming to target potential markets such as corporate, group, adult/youth/family, and special interest groups incorporating AIA’s goals to develop all participants spiritually, mentally, and physically

Hire, train, manage and motivate staff, keeping both spiritual and professional development in mind

Develop and manage overall and individual program budgets

Engage third-party partners to maximize revenue and attract events

Manage and communicate ongoing sports facility scheduling

Develop a customer feedback system to maximize customer experiences and potential future programming

Track, analyze, and report event metrics

Develop goals for SCRC programming and coordinate with marketing and sales staff to achieve

Support event sales growth through networking, building relationships, and strategic alliances

Assist SCRC Marketing Manager in communicating events to potential markets

Assist other Sport TEAM Directors/staff and coaches as they utilize the facility

Demonstrate and model personal spiritual discipline and assist in development of an environment on the team where individual team members grow in their own Christian walks.


Knowledge of:
Current CPR/First Aid with certifications (or obtain these within a specified period)

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google G Suite

Scheduling and or project scheduling techniques

Collaboration platforms such as Asana or Trello

Workplace management and resources systems such as EMS

Knowledge of CRM platforms a plus

Ability to:
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and negotiating skills

Manage and deliver results based on team needs and goals

Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills

Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays

Travel as needed

Delegate and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously

Operate a computer

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management or related field with 3 – 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Coaching/teaching both youth and adult sports

Demonstrated record of developing, marketing, and selling sports and training programs


The work environment will have intermittent noise levels and will be both indoors and outdoors at times in inclement weather.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and/or hear; use close and distance vision, walk and sit, squat or bend and may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to waist level.
